Thank You, Mr. President

President Donald Trump returns from Kentucky. Washington DC - 21 August 2019

In light of President Donald J. Trump’s recent decision to bomb Iranian nuclear sites—a bold and decisive act that we believe has saved the Jewish people from the threat of annihilation—we feel a deep sense of gratitude and moral obligation to publicly express our thanks.

This was not merely a military strike; it was a historic act of courage and moral clarity. In a world too often paralyzed by indecision and political posturing, President Trump acted swiftly and with resolve to neutralize a threat that has haunted our people for decades. For that, we are eternally grateful.

We reached out to numerous prominent individuals and community leaders to join us in this public expression of thanks. Due to the short notice, many who wished to participate were unable to do so. The statements that follow represent only a small sampling of the widespread and heartfelt appreciation that is being felt throughout the Jewish world—and indeed, beyond it.

Dear President Trump:

In the wake of the recent events in the Middle East, we feel compelled—morally, spiritually and historically—to express our heartfelt gratitude.
For over four decades, the Iranian regime had relentlessly pursued a master plan for the annihilation of the State of Israel.
This genocidal campaign was built upon three deadly foundations. First, Iran had accelerated its uranium enrichment and weaponization programs, moving aggressively toward the production of multiple nuclear warheads. The existential danger this posed—to Israel and to global stability—cannot be overstated.
Second, Tehran had amassed a vast arsenal of ballistic missiles, thousands strong, with ranges capable of striking not only Israel but also much of the Middle East, Europe and beyond.
And third, Iran had positioned a web of proxy forces across the region—Hezbollah in Lebanon, the Houthis in Yemen, Shiite militias in Iraq and Syria, and Hamas and Islamic Jihad in Gaza—all trained, armed and coordinated by Tehran. Together, these forces stood ready to unleash a devastating, multi-front assault designed to overwhelm and destroy the people of Israel.
This was not theoretical. The threat was active, imminent and apocalyptic.
In this unprecedented moment, the government of Israel made an extraordinary request, asking the United States to take direct offensive military action on its behalf.
And you, Mr. President, answered that call.
You acted with courage. With clarity and conviction. You made a bold and politically risky move, not for personal gain but to stand with the Jewish people, who were in mortal danger. The Iranian nuclear facilities at Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan were struck with precision. Their diabolical ambitions were thwarted.
And for that, we thank you.
In Jewish tradition, those who save even one life are considered as if they saved an entire world. Mr. President, your actions may have very well saved millions of lives.
We fervently pray that G-d will continue to grant you strength and blessing.

With profound respect and enduring gratitude,

We write on behalf of Agudath Israel of America, a 103-year-old national Orthodox Jewish organization, to convey our heartfelt appreciation to you for the bold and decisive actions you took on Saturday to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear bomb.
Iran has made no secret of its design to annihilate Israel—may it never come to pass!
This has been its goal ever since the Islamic Revolution of 1979, when its leaders referred to Israel as a “cancerous tumor” that must be eliminated from the face of this earth. The threat to Israel posed by Iranian nuclear capacity would be existential.
Iran has no credibility with respect to its nuclear program. It has proceeded with impunity to violate its nuclear nonproliferation obligations, as the International Atomic Energy Agency recently detailed in a report, where it described Iran’s “rapid accumulation of highly enriched uranium,” and Iran’s failure to provide “technically credible answers regarding the nuclear material at three locations.”
As you know, Mr. President, it’s not just Israel that has an interest in blocking Iran’s nefarious designs. The entire free world has a stake in a de-nuclearized Iran. As you said in your remarks on Saturday, Iran is “the world’s number one state sponsor of terror.” Your courageous actions struck a blow at the heart of global terror. Thank you.
We also thank you, Mr. President, for giving G-d such prominent mention in your moving remarks. Hashem is Master of the Universe, and we pray to Him that we will one day soon see everlasting peace in the Middle East and across the globe.
With our warmest wishes and deep appreciation,

Sol Werdiger and
Rabbi Chaim Dovid Zwiebel
